Anyway, my HTC Fuze is finally in the process of giving up the ghost for good, I think. The screen looks like this now:
If you don't see it, look at the bottom row of icons as well as the top of the email header. This isn't even as bad as it often is - sometimes I've got lines running all up and down the screen and I can't even tell what I'm doing. I've always been able to fix it before, but it's been a week like this.
So I ordered this:
It's the Samsung Epic 4G. I've stayed true to my word - I need a phone with a keyboard. For a while I considered again whether I could live without one, and the answer I kept coming up with was "fuck no". For a while it seemed like keyboarded phones were on their way to extinction, but I think people like me made a big enough stink about it that the manufacturers started listening. All of a sudden, there are a bunch of new QWERTY phones on the market, including the Epic 4G, the Droid 2 and on the lower end, stuff like the Samsung Intercept. I actually considered all of those, but decided on the Epic for a bunch of reasons. Samsung doesn't gimp their phones, for one thing. And Sprint's plans are a lot less expensive than Verizon's. (Yep, I'm ditching AT&T, who still don't seem to realize that the iPhone is not the only phone in the world. With no other option at the high end, I had no choice but to bolt.)
More thoughts once I receive it! This is going to be my first Android phone, so I'll probably be having a lot of "gee wiz" moments as I play around with it.
And no, I never really considered a "Windows Phone Series 7 Series Phone" phone, or whatever ridiculous thing MS is calling their mobile OS these days, because they actually took everything I liked about Windows Mobile 6.5 and either stripped it out or fucked it up. No multi-tasking, no copy-paste, uncustomizable and weird interface. Mark my words: this OS release is going to be a disaster for them.
